to reduce energy before teaching children
A stubborn child who refuses to listen is not as challenging to manage as you might think.
Children aged 3-5 are in a learning-ready stage. They can memorize and imitate behaviors quickly. However, the child still cannot control energy in their body. They cannot sequence thoughts or understand the importance of various events. But what the child undoubtedly needs is to have fun and enjoy life.
Sometimes, as a mother, you may find it challenging to employ adult-like methods, be it enforcing staying in one place or following the steps you set. This can become emotionally challenging and may lead to dissatisfaction, as it's perceived that our child is too stubborn and unwilling to listen.
Today, let's share some easy techniques to reduce the thought process of the child, using the concept of playing until tired and then gradually introducing teaching moments.
FYI, both parents should be present in every activity to observe your child's behavior, understand which activities they enjoy, and adjust your approach accordingly. It's about consistently caring for your child, preventing them from feeling lonely, and ensuring they always see us as reliable support.
Play until your child is tired!
It's a simple yet effective method, mothers. Engage your child in high-energy activities—play sports, go swimming, or let them run around for about 15-30 minutes. Allow them to expend all their energy, gradually winding down. When they become tired, their thinking will slow down, and their concentration will improve. At this point, we can gently provide information or instructions that we want them to remember, making it easier for them to recall.
Draw until your child is tired!
If your child is an aspiring artist who enjoys drawing and coloring on surfaces we'd rather they didn't, such as walls or the sofa, here's a simple solution. Just buy large drawing paper sheets—don't opt for small ones, as it limits the frame from the beginning. Once you have the large sheet, let your child draw whatever they want. The larger the sheet, the more tired they'll become. Then, gradually transition to smaller sizes based on the endurance you observe in your child. Afterward, you can teach them that if they want to color, they should do it on white paper later on.
Sculpt until your child is tired!
If your child is an aspiring architect or sculptor with a vivid imagination, as a mom, you need to provide opportunities for sculpting without restrictions. You can use a plastic sheet for containment. After that, let your child sculpt to their heart's content! Mom will be here, waiting to admire the masterpiece. Sculpting is a way for the child to develop small muscle coordination. They'll use force, squeeze, and knead. Then, gradually teach them step by step as the child starts to focus.
